BK Mag’s Northside Festival Mixtape #4
Usually, we start these weekly playlists of artists appearing at Brooklyn’s Northside Festival with a bit of poetic musing about the seasons, the summer, the fleeting pleasures of our fading youth. But yesterday we announced a Parquet Courts show on a freakin’ boat circling the East River! So there’s no time for that shit!
It’s fitting then, that today’s playlist is capped off by a killer party jam from the Brooklyn heroes’ latest (and greatest?) album, Wide Awake, which was just released today. There are followed in running order by Ethiopian jazz legend Hailu Mergia, who will be joining PQ on that particular pleasure cruise. From there, things stay as nicely varied as you come to expect, from Chicago footwork original Jana Rush’s dark future beats through Sam Evian’s gently nostalgic glam rock, and beyond.
