See Porches, Sunflower Bean, & Crumb Free This Weekend at SummerStage!
For over 33 years, SummerStage has brought live music and performances to parks across all five boroughs, and thanks to CityParks’ dedication to the program, this year’s lineup is one of the best yet.
Three hometown bands will take the stage this weekend: Brooklyn Mag/Northside Fest favorites Porches, Sunflower Bean, and Crumb. We’ve briefly profiled each below, so check them out this Saturday!
Porches
Brooklyn Magazine spoke with Aaron Maine, the brainchild behind synth-pop band Porches, right after the release of Pool in 2016. His profile has only grown from there, leading to the release of Porches’ third album, The House, in January, which The Guardian called “accomplished, jaded, romantic, and intricate in its straightforwardness.”
Sunflower Bean
We profiled Sunflower Bean in 2015 as part of a series on people that inspire Brooklyn, and the three years since then have been busy: the band embarked on their first European tour, opened for The Pixies, and released their second album, Twentytwo in Blue, in March.
Crumb
Formed at Tufts University, Crumb taps into a huge variety of influences, crafting a unique sound that The Fader describes as “meld[ing] ‘60s psych, loose jazz, and freeform indie rock into a soothing pop amalgamation.”
