Gamify your own survival
A virtual fundraiser aims to save Bushwick's Wonderville.
You know where you don’t want to go during a pandemic? An indoor arcade where people are, well, gripping palm-sweaty joysticks and shouting at screens. Even if that place is Wonderville, the truly unique Bushwick bar and and arcade that features games designed by local developers—DIY contraptions with enticing names like Black Emperor, DreamboxXx and Foiled!
Wonderville is in trouble. So on Dec. 20 it will be hosting a virtual gaming fundraiser from noon until midnight designed to keep the games going, according to Brooklyn Paper.
What is a virtual gaming fundraiser, you ask? The event will stream on Twitch with the partnership of nonprofit parent Death By Audio and will feature live concerts streamed in a customized Minecraft world, interviews with game developers and arcade booth creators, and an appearance by local state senator Julia Salazar. The goal: To raise $30,000 for six months’ rent. Time to level up, gamers.
