BRIC releases its Celebrate Brooklyn! 2024 summer calendar
The annual concert series returns to Prospect Park for its 46th year, with highlights that include Fishbone, Meshell Ndegeocello, Sinkane
It’s a sign of summer is just around the corner: The BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! festival lineup has released its list of concerts and events, with the spectacle celebrating its 46th year of entertaining the borough.
The event, which runs from June 8 to August 24, largely takes place Prospect Park’s Lena Horne Bandshell. New this year is a sister “pop-up festival experience” at Brower Park in Crown Heights.
Prominent artists included in this year’s genre-crossing lineup include punk-ska band Fishbone; singer-songwriter, bassist and rapper Meshell Ndegeocello; reggae stars Lila Ike and Jesse Royal with local artist Anant Pradhan; plus retro soul ensemble Thee Sacred Souls and the Sudanese-born Brooklyn-based artist Sinkane. A host of “vital emerging acts” include Ambar Lucid, Adi Oasis and Talibah Safiya.
A family-friendly event with headliner the Halluci Nation and Xiuhtezcatl (formerly known as A Tribe Called Red), an indigenous-inspired electronica band, will open the festival on June 8. Also, on June 12, record producer D-Nice will be honored with a gala. July 6 will see a screening of Spike Lee’s iconic “Do The Right Thing.”
In a press release, BRIC said that this year’s theme pays homage to Brooklyn’s “rich cultural tapestry” and pays tribute to the role the borough has in “shaping the lives and trajectories of global cultural icons, public servants, artists, community activists, and business leaders”
“By centering ‘Raised by Brooklyn,’ the festival celebrates the contributions of Brooklynites while providing a platform to inspire the next generation of changemakers and creatives, affirming its commitment to uplifting the diverse voices and experiences that make this community so vibrant,” the statement said.
