Celebrate Brooklyn returns! Plus 8 other things to do this weekend

It’s the last weekend of July—or the first Sunday in August, depending on how you look at things. Which invites the question: how is it possible that it’s already August?  To take your mind off of the ineluctable passage of time, here’s a roundup of comedy shows, art fairs, a Black-owned brand pop-up shop, and music happening this weekend.

Friday July 30

Euphoria: Midst Bloom
12 to 7:30 p.m., all weekend
Beat the FOMO and flood your feed with pics from this Instagrammable immersive pop-up art exhibit in Brooklyn put together by Euphoria and Absurd Conclave with the goal of getting visitors to “feel and get a glimpse of a field of new vision full of hope, optimism and positivity.” You can get tickets for $15 to spend an hour inside the colorfully elaborate rooms, which are open from 12 to 7:30 p.m. all weekend at 360 Jefferson Street in Bushwick.

Music With a View at Washington Street
5 to 7 p.m.
Each Friday free concerts are hosted at the picturesque water street in Dumbo to celebrate Brooklyn’s “Renaissance.” This week it’s the Tall Sam Trio with an Americana Jazz performance. Bring takeout and enjoy the show.

Live at the Dumbo Archway
5 to 7 p.m.
The happy hour concert series curated Jan Bell of the Brooklyn Americana Music Festival continues this week with Queen Esther performing. According to Vanity Fair Queen Esther is “a black Lucinda Williams in pop, rhythm, blues and roots Americana, original, explosive singer.”

Saturday July 31

Beer Bourbon & BBQ Festival 
2 to 6 p.m.
For $60 Brooklynites can enjoy all-you-care-to-taste samplings of beer and bourbon, (in a complimentary souvenir glass) access to what organizers Drink Eat Relax call the Shrine of the Swine. The festival takes place at the Brooklyn Expo Center in Greenpoint and VIP passes are also available.

BRIC Presents Celebrate Brooklyn!
Doors at 6 p.m.
Brooklyn’s premier outdoor concert series is back featuring Ari Lennox at the bandshell in Prospect Park for Brooklyn Information & Culture’s first free concert this summer. BRIC says their concerts will “use artistic platforms to reaffirm the very basis of what Brooklyn and America is—a welcoming, supercollider of ideas and cultures, informing and enriching each
other.” Free. RSVP is not required, and does not guarantee entry.

Brooklyn Summer Pop-Up Shop
1 to 7 p.m.
Pop of Culture presents a pop up shop for Black-owned brands at 1386 St. Johns Place in Crown Heights on both Saturday and Sunday. The market will feature over 40 Black-owned fashion, beauty, art, and lifestyle brands, a fully stocked bar, music, and food.

Pipe Up Comedy Show
Doors 7 p.m. Show at 8
The Pipe Up Comedy show is an outdoor comedy extravaganza at the Hemp Lab Cannabis Club in Greenpoint. The pre-rolled joint included with each $15 ticket along with the wine and weed-infused ice cream available to purchase at the show is guaranteed to leave the audience red-eyed and knee-slapping. The Hemp Lab Cannabis Club is located at 128 India Street.

Mini BazART at 19 Dock Street
2 to 8 p.m.
Brooklyn Arts Council and African Peach Arts Coalition presents a block party with poets, vendors, music performances, raffles in Dumbo on Saturday.

Sunday August 1

Green Meadows Farm’s Friendly Farm Animals
11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Each Sunday Green Meadows Farm opens their doors to Brooklyn’s families to enjoy spending time with ponies, alpacas, llamas, calves, pigs, sheep, goats, bunnies, and more farm animals. There are open areas for picnics, a happy hayride, as well as bulldozers and tractors for kids to sit on all at the Aviator Sports and Events Center at 3159 Flatbush Avenue.
