Looklyn: Meet Jailyn, a groovy ‘Jack-of-all trades’
In this installment of our street-style series, we meet a collegial collegiate with skills to match her style
Street style isn’t necessarily the same thing as “fashion.” It’s … more personal. It’s rooted in self, an outward expression of attitude, vibe, swag, panache, aspiration, time and place. In this series, called Looklyn, we hold a mirror up to the borough to show us how we dress now … and what it tells us about who we are.
Here, photographer Johnny Cirillo introduces us to Jailyn, on her way to get a tattoo—and maybe become a funky librarian.
Name: Jailyn Zabala
Age: 21
Occupation: Student
Where are you heading?: Going to Live by the Sword to get a matching tattoo with my sister.
Fashion inspo: I love vintage fashion but I often just end up picking things based on color or pattern. I love walking through thrift stores and just waiting until a borderline ugly pattern catches my eye.
About the fit: This is one of my more reserved relaxed outfits. It just came together.
About me: I am graduating college soon and deciding what I want to do next. I’ve always been a Jack-of-all trades so I’ve never had one passion I’ve stuck to. In the last year I’ve done research on making video games for BIWOC and now I am co-authoring a paper on disability studies. I don’t know where I’ll go next but I do like the image of being a funky librarian.
