10 things to do this weekend: A farewell to KAWS and Coney Island fireworks
It's a different kind of Labor Day Weekend this year, but there is still plenty to do before we say goodbye to summer
Autumn is creeping in, and Labor Day is nigh. We know you’ll want to pack the weekend as you say farewell to summer. The borough has a host of events planned to help you savor those last drops of warm weather.
Here’s the rundown:
Friday, September 3
DTBK Presents: Funky Fridays – Carnival on the Plaza
5 to 8 p.m.
The plaza at 300 Ashland has rescheduled their Carnival on the Plaza for Labor Day Weekend. The event features performances by Caribbean Cultural Creations, Kaisokah Moko Jumbies USA (stilt walkers!), and music by Brooklyn-based DJ Selector Sean. Free to attend and delicious popsicles provided.
Welcome Back! New York Carnival 2021
7 p.m.
The West Indian Day Parade had to cancel their traditional bash. Fortunately you can still attend a scaled-back dance party at the Brooklyn Museum. Can’t make it this Friday? There’s a masquerade party on Monday as well.
Catch the last fireworks at Coney Island
9:45 p.m.
Still haven’t made the trip down to Coney Island? This Labor Day Weekend is your last chance to see Luna Park’s dazzling and free fireworks show. For the best views, make sure to stand on the Boardwalk between West 10th Street and West 23rd Street.
Saturday, September 4

Borscht: A Brooklyn Rooftop Stand Up Comedy Show

According to Tiny Cupboard, Borscht is a weekly comedy show “as universally loved as the cold Russian beet soup that bears its name.” A new lineup of comedians grace the rooftop of 1717 Broadway every Saturday, rain or shine. Tickets are pay what you wish.
Sunday, September 5
Last chance: KAWS exhibition at Brooklyn Museum
11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

KSHMR at The Brooklyn Mirage
10 p.m.
A consistent presence in the past few years of Top 100 DJs lists, Indian-American DJ KSHMR knows how to work a (19+) crowd into a frenzy. Tickets are $48.99 for general admission, $120.49 for VIP seats. The Brooklyn Mirage is at 140 Stewart Avenue.
UPDATE: An earlier version of this article included a listing for kayaking off Pier 2. That event has been canceled. We regret any inconvenience that may have caused.
