Looklyn: Meet Darnell, spreading love—and DIY style
Living his best life (with scissors)
Street style isn’t necessarily the same thing as “fashion.” It’s … more personal. It’s rooted in self, an outward expression of attitude, vibe, swag, panache, aspiration, time and place. In this series, called Looklyn, we hold a mirror up to the borough to show us how we dress now … and what it tells us about who we are.
Name: Darnell Bernard
Age: 30
How do you identify?: He/him
Occupation: Living my best life.
Where are you heading?: To spread joy.
Fashion inspo: My Aunt Wendy. Growing up I was always glamoured by all of her outfits. She inspired me to dress and be comfortable in whatever I chose to wear.
About the fit: My mother got the suit for me from Macy’s. Ha ha, to be honest, I truly dislike wearing traditional-fitting suits, so I cut it (with scissors) to make it more—what I consider to be—appealing.
Thoughts on life: You have to live each day with love. Spreading love and treating others with kindness in the key to a fulfilling, healthy life!
