Our 'Showtime in the Park' free movie series kicked off Thursday night with a screening of the Spielberg remake and good vibes
Hundreds of movie fans turned out at Fort Greene Park Thursday night to witness some Sharks on Jets action.
Brooklyn Magazine and Showtime were hosting the first in a series of free outdoor films with a screening of Steven Spielberg’s 2021 remake of “West Side Story.” The story of star crossed lovers was the perfect way to kick off “Showtime in the Park,” a batch of free family friendly films under the stars.
The “West Side Story” screening was the first in a series of four consecutive Thursday evenings of free movies in Fort Greene Park, to be followed by four more consecutive Wednesday evenings, starting August 3 in Prospect Park’s Long Meadow. The films are all nostalgic classics and instant feel-good fan favorites appropriate for all ages. Upcoming fils include “Crooklyn,” director Spike Lee’s love letter to the borough, “Selena,” “Back to the Future,” “Spider-Man No Way Home,” “Clue,” “Ghostbusters” and “Encanto.” See below for the full lineup.
“Showtime in the Park” movies is a partnership that also includes Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, Prospect Park Alliance and the Fort Greene Park Conservancy. Here are a few scenes from Thursday’s screening. It was a vibe.
