Tweets of the Week: Brooklyn in the House!
On Brooklyn's mind: Rep. Jeffries will become the first Black lawmaker to lead a party in Congress, plus other equally important stuff
It’s been a while since we’ve done this! It’s a new year and we resolve to bring you our Brooklyn Tweets of the Week™️ on a more regular basis going forward.
New here? Here’s the idea: Every week (more or less) we try to read the entire internet so you don’t have to and curate (some of) our favorite tweets from the previous seven days.
This week, Brooklyn’s own Rep. Hakeem Jeffries has been approved to lead the House Democrats and is poised to make history as the first Black lawmaker to lead a party in Congress as the 118th Congress convenes in Washington. (Meanwhile, Sen. Chuck Schumer, also of Brooklyn, continues to lead the Senate.) House members can’t be sworn in until the speaker stalemate — on its historic fourth day as of this typing — is resolved, though. So while Jeffries waits, we have other matters of less-than-national import to share with you as well.
In no particular order, here are your locally sourced, organically grown, free-range nuggets of wisdom and/or jest for the the first week of 2023.

*voice of white socialist who overbid for an apartment in Bed-Stuy and is now being joined by plain old white gentrifiers*
YIMBYs need to be stopped from gentrifying our cities. Where are the ethnic enclaves of marginalized cultures that we used to love?

Looking forward to angrily shoving dozens of these out of my way in Prospect Heights and Park Slope as the moon-faced parents stroll along gazing into their phones https://t.co/CaHbh6BvbA

Simply walking around park slope smelling the discarded Christmas trees of the wealthy.. is this what “upstate” is like ?

This made me remember another thing, speaking of park slope – I met someone walking a xolo there once and when i stopped to ooh and ahh, the dog’s human handed me a business card with the Instagram for the dog https://t.co/OM00yBZW4d
