Red Hook is getting a massive new film lot and public park
Brooklyn-based Samson Stages is building a 330,000 square-foot studio facility with eight stages fit for various productions
A part of the Red Hook waterfront is getting a Hollywood makeover.
Brooklyn-based Samson Stages announced this week that it will be meeting the persistent demand for production space in the city by building a massive 330,000 square-foot complex that’s going to house several new TV studios, sound stages and even a new public park. The $400 million project is located at 744 Clinton Street, which currently houses Sunshine Lighting.
Described in a release as a “dynamic vertical village,” the wood-slatted structure, designed by Bjarke Ingels (nice URL, bro), will be built by stacking eight stages on top of each other with green terraces on some of the levels. The waterfront portion will have a café and places for the public (and the building’s tenants) to sit and mingle.
An opening date has not been announced. Samson Stages currently has facilities on Hicks Street in Red Hook where it has been used for music videos for Dua Lip and Bruce Springsteen (not together), several projects for Ryan Reynolds and even a Panera ad.
“Being a native New Yorker who has spent 22 years in this business, it’s exciting to see how the industry has grown. This new facility will be a reflection of that excitment, will feature the newest technology, and will give back to the Red Hook community,” said Rich Barbadillo, partner at Samson Stages, in the release.
