Solange's BAM series lineup revealed: KeiyaA, Kelela and more

The Brooklyn Academy of Music series will consist of seven events comprising concerts, films and dance performances

The lineup for the Solange Knowles-curated music series at Brooklyn Academy of Music has been announced, with tickets going on sale for BAM members beginning today.

“Eldorado Ballroom,” named after a Black music hall in her hometown of Houston, consists of seven events over the next few months that will be dedicated to “reverencing and preserving the works of Black practitioners,” according to BAM.

Curated by singer-songwriter Knowles and creative agency Saint Heron, the program kicks off March 30 and will explore “artistic territory through investigations surrounding the sonic and performance-based expressions that have shaped the artist’s own practice.” In addition to concerts, the multi-week event will present films, performance art and dance, all will take place across BAM’s spaces.

“It has been a joy to partner with Solange on her latest curatorial feat. Through Saint Heron, she is reshaping the way that we experience culture in bold, unexpected, and experimental ways,” said BAM President Gina Duncan, in a statement.

The first event will feature singers Kelela, Res and multi-instrumentalist and celebrated record producer KeiyaA. The series concludes in September with an opera event.

This is not the first artist-curated series at BAM. Last year, it enlisted poet, essayist, cultural critic (and former Brooklyn Magazine podcast guest) Hanif Abdurraqib. That series “went beyond our wildest dreams,” said BAM’s Artistic Director David Binder in the statement.

Tickets for “Eldorado Ballroom” goes on sale Friday at Noon for BAM members and the general public next Tuesday.
