Mother’s Day and the New York Bike Jumble: 13 things to do this weekend

It feels like the warm weather is finally here to stay, so let’s see what Brooklyn has in store for going out and about this weekend.

The Heights Players conclude their 67th season this month with weekend performances of “Guys and Dolls” every Friday at 8 p.m. Find a bargain on a bike on Saturday at the New York Bike Jumble, the city’s only bicycle flea market, then take your new wheels for a spin over to Restoration Plaza for Council Member Chi Ossé’s Bike Day at 2 p.m.

Sunday is Mother’s Day and there’s no shortage of brunch spots ready to carbo-load your ma (if you can’t find what you’re looking for here, check out the always-excellent Mommy Poppins for other local mom-friendly brunch suggestions).

Friday, May 12

Drunk Planet Earth
7 p.m.
“Mystery Science Theater meets animal documentary with drinking rules thrown in” at this comedy show hosted by Brian Morabito (Comedy Central) and Stephen Buckley (UCB). The show involves watching a nature documentary, drinking and audience participation. Stump the hosts with animal questions and they have to take a shot. Easy Lover, 790 Metropolitan Avenue. Free.

The Heights Players present: “Guys and Dolls”
8 to 10 p.m., every weekend through May 21
Calling all gamblers and gangsters: The Heights Players invite you to the closing show of their 67th (!) season, “Guys and Dolls.” The Players perform the beloved classic by Frank Loesser to Brooklyn Heights all month. Come hear some of the finest in midcentury tunes like “Luck Be a Lady” and “Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat” at the three-quarter round of the John Bourne Theatre. 26 Willow Place. Music of Curiosities at Coney Island
8 to 10:30 p.m.
Music of Curiosities brings high art to the high kitsch of Coney Island, connecting outsider, experimental, and LGBTQIA+ performers to the broader Brooklyn community. The curiosities kick-off on Friday night with something called the 100th Annual Comedy-Music Friendship Awards, a musical trip with synth pop/glam rock duo Theophobia, comedy by Simple Town and Tate Hoffmaster, and performance art by Glitter Macabre. A.I. Cabaret
8 p.m.
If you’re ready to embrace our brave new world, come out for an A.I.-infused cabaret on Friday night. Macy Rodman and Mimi Zima crafted a show that blurs the lines between human and machine, with stunning visuals and state-of-the-art sound design. Come experience what dance numbers look like in The Matrix. 325 Franklin Avenue. Tickets are $12.

Green Tile Social Club’s first birthday bash
10:30 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Green Tile Social Club is a mahjong community that hosts monthly events, meetups, and popups across the city. To celebrate their first year, they’ll host a night of debauchery on Friday at Bushwick’s Red Pavilion, Brooklyn’s new AAPI-owned neo-noir nightclub. Come shake it to hip-hop, R&B, and house cuts on Friday night, and maybe play a game or two. 1241 Flushing Avenue. Early bird tickets are $20 and $25 at the door.

Saturday, May 13

New York Bike Jumble
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Are you looking for a good deal on a bike? You’re in luck because the 12th annual Bike Jumble has one with your name on it. Head over to Old Stone House in Washington/JJ Byrne Park where you’ll find new, used, and collectible bikes at New York’s only bicycle flea market. You’ll find some of the year’s best deals this weekend! 336 Third Street.

International Migratory Bird Day
10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Here’s some ornithological news you can use: Prospect Park is an essential stop-over location for birds migrating this time of year, and on Saturday, you can celebrate International Migratory Bird Day with nature activities for the whole family. You’ll learn about the park’s 250 species of birds, explore nature around the Audubon Center, or you can help clean up the lakeshore, spread mulch, and remove invasive species. 101 East Drive.

Farmhouse Family Day: Pinkster Celebration
11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Discover the history of Pinkster, one of North America’s first African celebrations, at The Wyckoff House Museum on Saturday. The Pinkster Festival is a 350-year-old celebration of music, dance, and other cultural expressions of African heritage. Play with Colonial-era toys and games, explore Wyckoff’s historic house, and hear stories and music from Chief Baba Neil Clarke. Stick around to make some music of your own. 5816 Clarendon Road. Council Member Chi Ossé’s Bike Day
2 to 11 p.m.
Council member Chi Ossé of Bed-Stuy and North Crown Heights brings his annual Bike Day back to Restoration Plaza on Saturday. The ride begins at the Plaza and returns at 4 p.m. for food and music by DJ Hard Hittin Harry. Stick around for karaoke at 6 p.m. and a screening of the movie “Beat Street” at 8 p.m. 1360 Fulton Street. Free.

Sunday, May 14

Mother’s Day brunch at Patti Ann’s
10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Patti Ann’s, a neighborhood restaurant in Prospect Heights named after acclaimed chef Greg Baxtrom’s mom, is hosting a Mother’s Day brunch on Sunday. You can choose from Loaded Hash Browns, a fancy bacon egg and cheese sandwich, and pastries like maple crullers. 570 Vanderbilt Avenue.

Mom’s love to brunch — at The Osprey!
10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
