Photoville returns to Brooklyn Bridge Park next month
The newly reopened Emily Warren Roebling Plaza is the hub of the sprawling event, which will boast more than 80 exhibitions
Photoville, the annual celebration of photography, is returning for its 12th year next month.
Brooklyn Bridge Park is once again the hub of the two-week event, which begins June 3, with free open-air exhibitions, interactive workshops and, of course, those iconic shipping containers that act as mini-galleries. Grand opening weekend takes place at the recently opened Emily Warren Roebling Plaza and features more than 55 exhibitions of various art and food on sale from Smorgasburg.
“This year, we’re thrilled to present a version of the festival that unites its past and present: bringing the storage containers back to Brooklyn Bridge Park and turning them, once again, into temporary sites of urgent, lively, and inspiring photography, as well as featuring exhibitions in all five boroughs,” said Photoville cofounder Sam Barzilay in a release.
Since its 2012 inception, the event has grown from its Brooklyn roots and now encompasses more than 80 exhibitions across the five boroughs. In addition to Brooklyn Bridge Park, Photoville is holding displays on Washington Street in DUMBO, as well as Old Fulton Street and Prospect Street in DUMBO and M.S. 51 Williams Alexander School in Park Slope.
Notable exhibitions on display include “New York’s Swirling Kaleidoscope of Faiths,” featuring photography of places of worship in the city from New York Times’ photographer James Estrin and “All the Dreamers,” which are “candid portraits” from the Staten Island Ferry from 2014 to 2022.
