Movie nights return to three Brooklyn parks with weekly films all summer
Brooklyn Magazine will co-host 12 free films in McCarren, Fort Greene and Prospect Parks for ‘Paramount+ Movie Nights in Brooklyn’
We heard you like movies. We also heard you like parks. Well, we put movies in your parks so you can park while you movie all summer long.
Brooklyn Magazine, in partnership with Paramount+ and with an assist from Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, Prospect Park Alliance and Fort Greene Park Conservancy, are excited to present “Paramount+ Movie Nights in Brooklyn,” a summer series of free films in Fort Greene Park, Prospect Park and McCarren Park.
We’re talking about classics like “House Party,” “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “The Big Lebowski.” And we’re talking about recent hits like “Everything, Everywhere All at Once,” “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” All free, all summer, all outdoors.
The season kicks off with four consecutive Thursday evenings beginning June 29 in Fort Greene Park, continues with four consecutive Wednesday evenings starting July 26 in Prospect Park’s Long Meadow, and ends with four final evenings starting Sunday, August 20, in McCarren Park. The series builds off of the longstanding “Summer Movies Under the Stars” series offered in Prospect Park for many years through the support of the Borough President.
“There’s nothing better than Brooklyn in the summertime — especially the memories of summer as a kid,” says Reynoso. “We’re in luck that nostalgia is the theme of our ‘Paramount+ Movie Nights in Brooklyn’ series this summer.”
Indeed, the themes throughout the series are connectivity, perseverance, friendship, family, self-empowerment, creativity, fantasy, and fun — just what we could all use this summer. (We can make no promises this year, but last summer Spike Lee showed up to introduce our screening of “Crooklyn” in Fort Greene Park, so anything is possible.)
There will be DJs every evening leading up to the films, acres of grass and bottomless good vibes. Because the borough abides.
Showtimes are at sunset. Get there early and bring the kids — or leave them at home and enjoy a night off. Here’s the full lineup; mark your calendars now:
