Here are the 12 new vendors coming to Smorgasburg
New additions next weekend include pho, cupcakes and, well, weird ass cookies
Screw swimsuit season! Smorgasburg is adding a dozen new vendors across its two Brooklyn locations beginning next weekend.
The new additions bring the total vendors to 62 at its Williamsburg market and 67 at its Prospect Park, which mirror pre-pandemic numbers according to Smorgasburg cofounder Eric Demby. He tells Brooklyn Magazine that while it’s been a “slow arduous climb” following a tough two years, there’s a reason for optimism.
“One silver lining has been how many incredible entrepreneurs have sprung up during and since the pandemic, adding a welcome jolt of new energy over the last 12 months,” he says. “The other has been the opportunity—although due to several vendors moving on from Smorg—to make the markets look more like Brooklyn and New York in terms of inclusion and diversity, which we have embraced wholeheartedly.”
Demby adds that he feels that the brand has “weathered the storm and have emerged in decent shape,” pointing to its recent expansion into Miami and Toronto.
Here’s what’s new in Brooklyn, according to Demby. Highlights include Mariscos El Submarino, Toastieland, Perros Locos, and, for the name alone, Weird Ass Cookies:
- Cento Percento Firenze-fresh meatballs and house-cured meats on homemade bread and decadent desserts make this stand a godfather among sandwiches. (Williamsburg and Prospect Park)
- Perros Locos Handmade Mexican-inspired sausages served in fresh-baked bread. Perfect for the summer temps and Smorg picnics on the grass. (Williamsburg and Prospect Park)
- Churrero Light and airy Southern Cali-inspired churros with a perfect golden brown shell covered in a cinnamon-sugar mix, plus a secret spice for an extra kick. A seasonal fruit spritz is the perfect partner to your treat. (Williamsburg and Prospect Park)
- L’Isolina Pasta Hand-crafted and bronze-extruded in the traditional Gragnano way, this pasta uses the more nutritional (and flavorful) whole wheat grain (grown on a small Long Island farm). House-made sauces (don’t miss the seasonal pestos) for a discerning crowd. (Williamsburg)
- Toastieland Rainbow grilled cheese by a Destination Dumplings co-founder! Perfectly stretchy mozzarella in rainbow colors for an extreme cheese pull. (Williamsburg and Prospect Park)
- Sherry Herring From Israel to the Upper West Side and now Smorg. Try Sherry Ansky’s legendary herring and smoked fish sandwiches and teleport to a street market in Tel Aviv! (Williamsburg)
- Sweet Paige Founded by 14-year-old Cameron Rivera of Ridgewood, her specialty cakes and cupcakes are a feast for the belly and the eyes. See what special flavors she’s concocted each week. (Williamsburg)
- Weird Ass Cookies A pineapple-jalapeno-red-onion cookie? Sure! How about horseradish-candied-ginger-
wasabi-pea? We love it. Former Better Pop vendor brings the bizarre every Sunday. (Prospect Park) - Badass Bagels These naturally leavened wild-yeast sourdough bagels have blown up in their Westport, CT, homebase, as have their housemade cream cheeses (hot-honey-pistachio anyone?). Crunchy outside, airy and tangy inside, schmears to die for. Top it with gravlax, and/or take home a dozen. (Williamsburg)
- Mariscos El Submarino This popular Jackson Heights eatery brings all the (spicy) freshness of Sinaloan Mexican cuisine to the market, with aguachiles and ceviches in flavor combos you’ve never had but need to try (think soy sauce!) (Williamsburg and Prospect Park)
- Frankie’s Spot Two Vietnamese-inspired crowd-pleasers from this Elmhurst couple: Pho birria and fried-chicken banh mi. Not to be missed. (Prospect Park)
- Pilar This Clinton Hill pillar (originally a Fort Greene Flea stand in 2008!) rumbas into Smorg with a legit cubano (bread shipped from Little Havana!) and a ridiculous three-cheese grilled cheese with sweet platanos. Guava pastries too. (Prospect Park)
