The Farm on Adderley is closing after 16 years

The Ditmas Park restaurant ushered in a new type of dining in the neighborhood

The Farm on Adderley, the beloved restaurant in Ditmas Park that changed the face of the neighborhood’s dining scene when it opened, has announced that it will be closing after more than 15 years operating.

In a note posted on Instagram, owners Jai Chun and Kathie Lee explained that staffing challenges and rising costs have made “impossible for us to continue offering the quality you’re accustomed to at sensible prices.” The Farm on Adderley’s final meal will be on July 10 for brunch.

“This day is a tribute to the tireless efforts of all the kindred spirits, artists, students, denizens and outcasts that made it possible for us to offer you nourishment, celebration and a place of belonging we called homebase,” the pair wrote.

The Farm earned early rave reviews and love from its neighbors for its use of local ingredients, and for being the first of its kind along Cortelyou Road. A 2006 review from the New York Times said it was “getting a lot of things right in the dining room” it is first month of operation. New York Magazine praised its use of organic foods, one of the first places to do so in the neighborhood, and its “world class fries.”

“The Farm has meant very different things to many people, but the aspiration has remained the same — to create a unique space to allow you to celebrate your lives with food and drink cared for by those with love in their hands,” Lee and Chun wrote.

“We are very grateful to every single person who accepted,” they added. “It is with this sense of openness and curiosity that we bid farewell and hope you continue to celebrate your lives.”
