In another blow to local restaurateurs, outdoor dining is about to be put on ice by weather starting Wednesday afternoon.

New York City is bracing for between 10 and 16-inches of snow, though probably on the lower end, starting later in the day tomorrow. There is a mixture of palpable excitement—our first big snow of the season, right in the middle of the holidays—and dread.
Restaurateurs, already reeling from Gov. Andrew Cuomo having shut down indoor dining this week in the face of the current coronavirus spike, are facing the prospect of kissing outdoor dining goodbye too (with, possibly, worse to come). Restaurants are scrambling to dismantle outdoor setups, some of which may have just been erected, to make way for snowplows and salt spreaders.

The late fall snowstorm—arriving about five days before the winter solstice—is forecast to arrive here at around 4 p.m. today.
“In addition to suspending alternate-side parking on Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 16-17, the city also ordered all roadway dining seats closed by 2 p.m. Wednesday; however, the city is not asking the restaurants to remove any barriers or structures at this point,” according to amNY.
