Protesters marched peacefully but angrily from Barclays Center to the home of Sen. Chuck Schumer demanding the removal of President Trump

All politics is local, the saying goes, and what happens in Washington rarely stays there.

The day after an angry mob of Trump supporters, stoked on by the president himself, stormed the U.S. Capitol in D.C., a more-peaceful but no less-angry organized protest marched through the streets of Brooklyn Thursday night. A crowd of several thousand anti-Trump protesters converged at Barclays Center starting at around 6 p.m., spilling onto Flatbush Avenue. The demonstrators then marched south to the home of Senator Chuck Schumer, the Democrat who will become the upper house’s majority leader upon the inauguration of Joe Biden as president on January 20.

“Democrats now control the House, the Senate and the presidency,” said one speaker in front of the Barclays Center (see video here). “So to our Democratic leadership—the honorable Speaker Pelosi, the honorable Majority Leader Chuck Schumer—do not mess this one up.”

These images were captured by Statia Grossman, a Brooklyn-based photographer who documented the demonstration as it progressed the mile-long stretch from Barclays Center, through cars and traffic on Flatbush Avenue, and ending in front of Schumer’s Prospect Park West building.

The mood was angry but peaceful, Grossman reports, orderly but vocal. There were chants of “No Trump, no K.K.K., no fascist U.S.A.,” (sometimes replacing “No Trump” with “No cops”) in front of Schumer’s house.
