Hundreds protest Rep. Malliotakis’ vote to decertify fair election results
Activists and elected officials chanted "Shame on you Nicole" and demanded her resignation in front of her Bay Ridge office this weekend

Several hundred protesters gathered in front of newly-elected U.S. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis’ Bay Ridge office Saturday to protest her vote to decertify the presidential election results.
The crowd, comprising activists and local elected officials, carried signs calling for her resignation and chanted slogans including “Shame on you Nicole.”
Malliotakis, who represents Southern Brooklyn and Staten Island as part of the 11th district, voted with 146 other Republicans last week to overturn the results of the 2020 election, which was by every measure transparent and fair.
Her vote was cast after a violent white mob invaded the Capitol during the vote, incited by the president himself, leading to the deaths of five people. And on Monday she repeated the lie that the presidential election results were fraudulent on the Joe Piscopo radio show (apparently a real thing), though she did condemn the rioters on the Hill.
“For over 300 years, we’ve had a peaceful [presidential] transition and after 72 hours in office, Nicole Malliotakis sold us out,” said City Councilmember Justin Brannan over the weekend, according to Kings County Politics. “Five people died [in the insurrection] and she still voted with Donald Trump.”
Malliotakis took office on Jan. 3 after defeating incumbent Max Rose.
For her part, Malliotakis is attempting to have her insurrection cake and eat it too by doubling down on claims of fraud while also attempting to distance herself from the mob that attacked the U.S. Capitol: On Jan. 6 she released a statement in which she said “I condemn in the strongest terms those who are wreaking havoc and participating in violence and lawlessness,” she said in her statement.
“You can’t incite an insurrection, then vote to undermine the voters will and think we’re going to take it laying down,” said local activist Murad Awawdeh, president of the Arab activist group Yalla Brooklyn. “This isn’t a Republican/Democrat issue—it’s an American one. Our democracy was attacked.”
A dyed-in-the-wool Trump Republican, Malliotakis received the president’s endorsement in her race against Rose as far back as last February. “Nicole has my Complete & Total Endorsement!” tweeted Trump, when he still had access to Twitter.
