Brooklyn’s tallest building unveils the country’s highest infinity pool
Brooklyn Point, built by developer Extell, has what it claims to be the highest infinity pool in the Western Hemisphere, 680 feet in the air
Brooklyn is now officially home to what developers are claiming is the highest infinity pool in the Western Hemisphere. But don’t expect to swim in it for less than $1 million.
The developers of Brooklyn Point, the tallest skyscraper in Brooklyn, have taken the wraps the tower’s crown jewel: a 27-foot long pool teetering 680 feet above the ground, with panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline. Even at that height—higher than the famous Marina Bay Sands Hotel pool in Singapore—the pool isn’t quite at the top of the recently completed 720-foot residential high-rise.
The tower is the final portion of a three-part Downtown Brooklyn development built by Extell Development and designed by Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects that is seated at the crux of downtown Brooklyn. The development, called City Point, was erected on the former site of the Albee Square Mall and now houses the DeKalb Food Market, a Trader Joe’s and two residential buildings.
This development became a flashpoint in 2013 after the first portion was completed by non-unionized construction workers, to the chagrin of local Brooklynites who protested the development at the time. Some of the construction of the second phase, a 670,000 square feet retail space, was non-union, as was part of the construction of the Brooklyn Point residential tower itself.
Brooklyn Point has already attracted a number of high-earning, high-profile clients including The Brooklyn Nets’ Spencer Dinwiddie, who in the fall of 2019 purchased the penthouse suite of the 68 story residential skyscraper. In March of 2021 alone, 11 contracts were signed and in April the project achieved 16 additional sales. The sales come after Extell Development reported a loss of $206 million in 2020, as a result of falling property values, higher financing costs and the sale of some of its holdings and interests. Sales for the tower are being handled by Million Dollar Listing star Ryan Serhant.
The infinity pool will open in time for summer, a year after Brooklyn Point welcomed its first residents in the summer of 2020. Heads up to mayoral candidate Shaun Donovan: Apartments are still available with prices for 1 bedroom apartments starting at about $1 million.
