Summer movies in Prospect Park return Thursday with ‘Goonies’
We're teaming up with Showtime, the Brooklyn Borough President's office and the Prospect Park Alliance to bring four classics to the park
“Movies Under the Stars” is back—and this time we mean it.
After a rained-out event last week, we’re hoping the weather gods smile on the return of a summer series of free films in Prospect Park’s Long Meadow for four consecutive Thursday evenings, starting August 5, with the 1985 classic “Goonies.”
In partnership with Showtime, Brooklyn Magazine, Prospect Park Alliance and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, “Movies Under the Stars” will offer nostalgic classics and feel-good fan favorites for all ages. In addition to “The Goonies,” our month-long series lineup will include “Jumanji: The Next Level,” “Black Panther,” and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” The themes throughout deal with connectivity, perseverance, friendship, self-empowerment, creativity and a little escapist fantasy—exactly what we all need right now.
The rain date for “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” which was supposed to show last week, will be on August 26. Mark your calendars! Showtimes are at sunset. Bring the kids.
Here’s the full lineup:
The Goonies: August 5
As if you haven’t seen it a million times already: A group of young misfits discover an ancient map and set out on an adventure to find a legendary pirate’s long-lost treasure in this Richard Donner and Steven Spielberg classic.
Jumanji: The Next Level: August 12
Black Panther: August 19
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: August 26 (rain date)
