Scenes from a ‘Goonies’ screening in Prospect Park
Brooklyn Magazine teamed up with Showtime, Prospect Park Alliance and the borough president's office for a Thursday night film series
“Movies Under the Stars” made a nostalgic return to the Long Meadow in Prospect Park Thursday night, as around 1,000 gathered to watch “The Goonies” in their quest to find the long-lost pirate treasure of One-Eyed Willie.
It was a vibe.
“Goonies is one of my favorite movies,” said Kelly Norris of Prospect Heights. “I’m an ’80s kid, so you know I grew up loving this movie. And it’s so great just to be outside on such a beautiful night.”
Organized by Brooklyn Magazine with Showtime, Prospect Park Alliance and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams’ office, the “Movies Under the Stars” series will continue its month-long run next Thursday, August 12, with “Jumanji: The Next Level.” The following Thursday, we will screen “Black Panther,” followed by “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” on August 26.
All screenings are free, and start at around 8:30.
“I wanted to spend some time in the park tonight,” said Tina Noohi of Carroll Gardens. “I used to work in Midtown and went to the Bryant Park movies almost every Monday, but it’s so much bigger here, and more relaxed. That was such a mad dash to get seats at Bryant Park, which you really don’t need to do here.”
