Halloween falls on a Sunday this year, but never fear (or do, that’s sort of the point): There’s a whole weekend’s worth of thrills to be had. We’re taking bets on the number of “Squid Game” costumes out there.
Here’s our roundup of family-friendly (and family-unfriendly) fare to get a jumpstart on the spooktacular weekend ahead.
Friday, October 29
ALCHEMY: Dead Sexy
10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Enjoy a night of sensual, sinful excitement from creators of Chemistry NYC. Performance by rockers The Epicureans featuring DeMille, two burlesque shows, bodypainting, tarot readings and bodywork are on site (an East Williamsburg loft with a roof deck). While this is not a sex party, spanking, hot wax play and shibari demonstrations will be delightfully inflicted. Tickets begin at $30.
Halloween Perreo Festival
10 p.m. to 4 a.m., Friday and Saturday
Grind at not one, but two nights of reggaetón at the Halloween Perreo Festival. Bring your significant other, their tia and your abuelita to two East Williamsburg warehouse locations (on Friday and Saturday nights) for a night of dancing and costume excess. Tickets start at $29.95.
Saturday, October 30
Be Cute Halloween Bash
10:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m.
See some horrifically cute drag at Horrorchata’s Be Cute eight annual Halloween bash at Littlefield. Eight drag performers, including Neon Calypso and Charlene, are joined by three DJs for a night of dancing with fellow “homos and aliens from outer space.” Advanced tickets are $25, limited $30 tickets available at the door.
Dirty Circus: Halloween Spectacular
6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
House of YES hosts a “multi-genre clusterfuck” of circus performers for a Halloween-themed variety show. As expected, you’ll leave “more turned on than terrified.” Presale tickets are sold out and doors are at 6:30.
Sunday, Oct. 31
Sunset Park Puppy Parade
10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Your pooch will look cuter than you in costume anyway. Registration begins at 10:30 am at the flagpole on 41st Street and 6th Avenue. The parade runs from 11-1 p.m.
Park Slope Halloween Parade
11:30 to 4 p.m.
Bring the kids to the Old Stone House (at President Street and Fifth Avenue) for a pre-parade concert with Rolie Polie Guacamole. The parade itself kicks off at noon along Fifth Ave to Third Street, followed by a giant puppet pageant and costume contest at Washington Park.
NIA’s 6th Annual Spooktacular
1 to 5 p.m.
Head down to Owl’s Head Park in Bay Ridge for family-friendly festivities featuring a magic show, costume contest, kids concert, treats, and more
Cobble Hill Halloween Parade
4 p.m.
Head to Cobble Hill Park (Clinton at Congress Street) at 4 p.m. for a family costume procession led by all-female brass band the Brass Queens. The parade starts on Congress and heads toward Henry Street, circling the park. Organizers encourage families to trick-or-treat throughout the neighborhood afterwards.
‘Rocky Horror’ with Live Karaoke
7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Dammit, Janet! Head to Littlefield for a screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show with live accompaniment from The Occasionalists, plus special guests. Get wild and untamed with a pre-show Halloween themed rock ‘n’ roll karaoke set. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 day of show, with proceeds benefiting Planned Parenthood of Texas.
Barrio Collective’s Trik-o-Teca
4 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Bushwick’s Barrio Collective hosts a community Halloween event at Our Wicked Lady, featuring local bands and vendors as well as Barrio DJs. Show up in costume to win $100 cash and other prizes – the theme for Trik-o-Teca is “the end of the world.” Tickets begin at $15.
Everyday People NYC: Roller Disco
5 p.m.
Halloween gone glam is the (mandatory) theme for Everyday People’s annual Studio 54 roller disco party at the Knockdown Center. Open skate runs from 5- 8:30 p.m., then moves to an auxiliary space to make room for a dance party. Music by DJ Moma, Eli Escobar and DJ Arson. Tickets start at $25.
Ghost Boat
7 p.m. to 12 a.m.
Head out on the haunted Hudson and celebrate Halloween on the water. Costumes encouraged and food provided alongside DJs Big Reef, Jayb, Active and others. This ghost ship departs from Brooklyn Army Terminal, and tickets begin at $40.
Mischief at the Jalopy
8 p.m. to 10 p..m.
The Jalopy Theatre’s monthly cabaret night returns with a Halloween edition featuring a play from the Boxcutter collective and piano party tunes from Ali Dineen and Band. Show up in costume and enter the Jalopy’s talent show — you’ll allegedly perform in front of a real Hollywood exec, but this may just be a Hallow’s ruse. Tickets are sliding scale and funds raised will support Fonkoze, a Haitian empowerment organization.
NY Night Train Halloween Hop
7 p.m. to 4 a.m.
All aboard the 16th annual Halloween Hop, with stops at TV Eye and Trans Pecos. Twenty-four bands doing covers – including Daddy Long Legs as Lord Sutch, Beechwood as The Clash, 95 Bulls as Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, and Mala Vista as The Damned – play between the venues. Among the night’s DJs are Jonathan Toubin, Josh Styles, Todd-o-Phonic Todd and more. Costume contest with $100 prize at 1 a.m. and visuals/performances all night long. Tickets are $10.
Spooky Smoking
8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Light up with WeedFeed, Urban Aroma and Koala Puffs at Brooklyn Commons on Flatbush Avenue for a Halloween themed high. This flower-themed party features a DJ, dab bar, infused drinks, free joints and, of course, a costume contest. Tickets start at $40.
