Park Slope man not running for governor
Former Mayor Bill de Blasio has put an end to the speculation by announcing he does not, in fact, have his eye on Albany
Noted Park Slope resident Bill de Blasio has decided not to swap out his local digs for something more spacious upstate as many of his fellow Brooklynites have done during the pandemic.
The former New York City mayor said Tuesday that he won’t be entering the Democratic primary to become the state’s next governor. Just as all of our friends in Park Slope announce their “personal news” on Twitter, so too did the former mayor.
In a 97-second video, shot somewhere in Park Slope, he told his dozen or so fans that instead of running for governor, he’s going to “devote every fiber of my being to fight inequality in the state.” The jokester also poked fun about his lack of groundhog-handling skills and that his near-daily visit to the Park Slope Y probably wasn’t a great look after all.

De Blasio listed some of his accomplishments such as universal pre-kindergarten and affordable housing initiatives. What he left unsaid that he was getting walloped in the polls by current the current governor, Andrew Cuomo’s replacement Kathy Hochul, and his fundraising efforts have most likely fallen well short of the $21.6 million war chest she has amassed so far.
Even though he’s not moving upstate, he has plenty of time to work on his Park Slope townhouse, which is currently being remodeled, according to the New York Post. Perhaps we’ll see him at Tarzian.
