Park Slope man not running for Congress
Rep. Bill de Blasio (D-Staten Island, Brooklyn) won't be a thing—at least this time around
Cross “congressman” off the list of potential next gigs for area man Bill de Blasio.
The former New York mayor ruled out running for newly redrawn 11th congressional district, which now encompasses his home neighborhood of Park Slope as well as other, more conservative Brooklyn neighborhoods and … Staten Island.
He made the announcement on Twitter, writing that while he loves the people that live in the district, it’s maybe just not enough love (or at least pain tolerance) to propel him to run for the congressional seat.
I’ve represented the neighborhoods of the 11th CD for years and I love the people who live here. It was gratifying to connect with community and elected leaders while I considered a run. I’m certain a progressive can win this seat and serve us in Washington.

De Blasio added that he plans to continue working towards the elimination of income inequality in the state. “I’m going to stick with that decision – it was the right one then and it remains so,” he wrote.
For now, voters will likely be choosing between Max Rose, who is hoping to take back his seat after losing in 2020, or re-electing Republican Nicole Malliotakis, who voted to decertify the 2020 presidential election results.
