Brooklyn Expo Center has closed—and will be replaced by a giant ninja gym
The 60,000-square foot space in Greenpoint has a new tenant: 'the biggest professional ninja training facility on the East Coast'
The Brooklyn Expo Center, which has hosted popular events ranging from the annual Hot Sauce Expo to the WFMU Record Fair to … a Hard Seltzer Festival, has reportedly closed.
The sprawling 60,000-square foot space on 72 Noble Street in Greenpoint is being replaced with a massive [hang on, let us double check this] ninja course. Ferox Athletics, the “biggest professional ninja training facility on the East Coast,” said on its website that it’s transforming the building into a sprawling parkour, ninja and obstacle course.
Just like an episode of “American Ninja Warrior,” the courses come equipped with challenges such as scaling a warped wall, navigating a double salmon ladder and attacking pull-up bars. Apparently the idea is to give customers (aspiring ninjas?) the same workout as a gym without the boring old weights. Classes will be offered aimed at beginners and, naturally, more advanced ninjas.
“Fly through the air with total body control. Working out doesn’t have to be a chore. We make it fun,” Ferox’s website proclaims. An opening date wasn’t announced, besides its Instagram account saying it’s coming soon.
Brooklyn Expo Center went out quietly, with its website not listing any future events and a request for comment not immediately returned. The only hint that it was dunzo was when attendees of the upcoming NYC Hot Sauce Expo were told it will now take place in faraway New Jersey, according to Greenpointers which first reported on the story.
Ninja courses are now a thing, with a few of them popping up across the city in recent months. New York City Ninja Academy opened a few months ago in Park Slope, replacing an old UFC-themed gym.
