Wimbledon’s Henman Hill is coming to Brooklyn

Tennis fans can watch the end of the Grand Slam tournament on a big screen at Brooklyn Bridge Park the second weekend in July

Wimbledon is currently unfolding 3,500 miles away, but at least one aspect of the annual Grand Slam tournament is coming to Brooklyn.

Organizers are recreating Henman Hill, the famous slope at the All England Tennis Club — where fans watch the action on a jumbo screen — in Brooklyn Bridge Park. From July 8 through July 10, the “Hill in New York” will broadcast a different match each day on a big screen followed by after party with live music.

Tickets are free, but the event is capped at 1,000 people. To secure your spot, you have to join Wimbledon’s free fan club.

For the unfamiliar, Henman Hill is named after British tennis great Tim Henman. Fans without tickets for seats at Wimbledon’s Court No. 1 in London gather there to watch the tennis spectacle. It’s taken on other names celebrating other British tennis players, including Murray Mound for Andy Murray and Raducanu Ridge for Emma Raducanu, who won last year’s U.S. Open in Queens.

Wimbledon began Monday and will run until Sunday, July 10.
