A brand new public park has just opened on the Williamsburg waterfront

Visitors to 50 Kent can now take advantage of a forest grove, elevated lawn, water feature and Manhattan views seven days a week

There’s a new public park just in time for the peak summer sunshine.

A new portion of Bushwick Inlet Park, located at 50 Kent Ave., has opened full-time on the Greenpoint-Williamsburg Waterfront.

Spanning nearly two acres, the new greenspace includes bike paths, a multipurpose field for various sports, a water feature, a forest grove and amazing views of the city. The greater Bushwick Inlet Park is a redeveloped site years in the making, made possible from a $75 million grant from former Mayor Bill de Blasio.

The area was once occupied by Williamsburg Gas Light Company in the 1850s and housed large storage tanks for gas. The city acquired the space in 2007 and National Grid, the successor of Williamsburg Gas Light Co., helped clean up the site in 2016.

Since April, the spot opened as a pop-up only on weekends, but is now open seven days a week from 7 a.m to 10 p.m. To celebrate the completion, the park is throwing free community events, including concerts and movies, all summer.

Further expansion of the area, with an additional 25 acres of park space, is planned in the coming years.
