Catnapped! Boka the Park Slope bodega cat is back home
The eight-month-old cat that became a viral phenomenon after being stolen was returned safely on Friday, much to the Internet's relief
Talk about a purr-fect ending.
Boka, the beloved cat stolen from a Park Slope bodega, has returned safely home. In an Instagram post, Green Olives Deli and Grocery owner Abdul Majeed confirmed the news, writing “BOKA IS BACK” and thanked everyone who “helped and shared the story.”
Boka was taken from outside of the Seventh Avenue bodega on July 29. Surveillance video captured the incident, which showed man in a blue hat and white shirt pick up the eight-month-old cat and take off with it. The cat-napping went rapidly viral on social media and local news outlets.
According to the Brooklyn Paper, a person that said they knew the thief convinced him to bring the cat back and brokered a return with the bodega owner. Boka was dropped off Friday evening at an “undisclosed location.” Majeed isn’t taking further action against the thief since Boka is healthy, but he said he hasn’t forgiven him.
“He will never ever be in Park Slope again, because everyone in the area is so mad at what he did,” Majeed told the newspaper.
The Internet breathed a collective sigh of relief: “This is the best news I have heard all week! So happy for you and Boka!,” wrote one person.
