Nathan’s Famous has teamed up with Coney Island Brewery to release its first-ever beer
The lager has a 'floral hop flavor' and, we're pretty sure, no hot dog water
Nathan’s Famous, the, uh, famous purveyor of hot dogs is now making its own beer for the firs time ever.
The restaurant chain created Nathan’s Famous Lager, in partnership with Coney Island Brewing Company in what is possibly the most Brooklyn thing ever.
Fortunately (or perhaps not!), the beer is neither brewed with nor does it taste like hot dog water, rather it’s “full of bright citrus and floral aromas and the palate has a nice cracker malt profile, with a floral hop flavor,” which we guess is slightly more desirable anyway. (In any event you could always just dunk your glizzy.) The session beer is 5 percent alcohol by volume, a cheeky nod to the original 5 cent price Nathan’s sold hot dogs for in Coney Island.
The lager, which will be available in a four-pack or on draft, goes on sale Friday at two Nathan’s Famous locations (Coney Island boardwalk and in Oceanside), plus at Coney Island Brewery.
It’s for a good cause, too, with $1 from every pint or can sold being donated to Alliance for Coney Island, an advocacy group that represents local businesses in the area. They also probably taste delicious after shoving 63 dogs down one’s gullet.
