Lulu Vintage Clothing, a vibrant vintage sidewalk shop in Bed-Stuy, is shutting down
Owner Gizmo Vintage Honey announced on Instagram that her shop is closing after a four-year-run of positive vibes and funky sales
Marcus Garvey Boulevard is about to get a little less vibrant. Lulu Vintage Clothing is packing it in.
Its beloved and eccentric owner Gizmo Vintage Honey announced on Instagram that she will be closing her shop as of Sunday, January 29.
“If you are in the neighborhood, please stop by, we’d love to hug you and say thank you for your support and motivation along our journey!” Honey wrote. One final farewell sale is being thrown from noon to 4:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
“I need to recoup and gain my strength with some down time until I can figure out a plan,” she explained in an Instagram message to Brooklyn Magazine. “I may need a time out break or something.”
In the meantime, Honey is still accepting sales on her Instagram (and she ships across the United States).
Lulu Vintage Clothing is a secondhand shop that mixes old-school stoop sale vibes with savvy and sassy social media smarts in Bed-Stuy. The roughly four-year-old business garnered fans and attention for its overflowing racks, filled with one-of-a-kind secondhand items and Honey’s dynamic presence. Her only “employee” is a yorkie named Poopie Butt.
In a post, New York Nico said Gizmo and her store is “truly a perfect example of why small businesses are so important to the fabric of this city.”
We at Brooklyn Magazine agree, and extend an open invitation for Gizmo to join us on our podcast whenever she’s ready.
