Speedier ferry service between Bay Ridge and Wall Street is coming soon

How do you get to Wall Street from Bay Ridge? Hustle, sure. Grift, maybe. But soon there will be a speedier way to get there, too!

Beginning March 8, NYC Ferry is piloting a new, speedier schedule between the two destinations that will amount to roughly a 20 minute commute on weekday mornings. It’s a reduction of about 15 minutes from the current route — at the expense of skipping two stops.

Manhattan-bound ferries on the new timetable will begin running at 6:15 a.m. and depart from the Bay Ridge stop, making only one stop at Atlantic Avenue/Brooklyn Bridge Park before moving on to Wall Street/Pier 11. There will be five departures from Bay Ridge (6:32 a.m., 7:22 am, 8:12 a.m., 9:02 a.m. and 9:52 a.m.) every weekday morning on the new service.

Bay Ridge riders who use the route to commute to one of the two eliminated stops on the route (Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park and Red Hook) will now have to transfer (for free) at Pier 11.

City council member Justin Brannan, who represents Bay Ridge, says the new service “has always been the dream” for the community.

“For people who work in Manhattan, being able to get from Bay Ridge to Wall Street in under 20 minutes is an absolute game changer,” he writes in a statement to Brooklyn Magazine. “There is simply no other way to get to Manhattan that fast.”

NYC Ferry said the test, which doesn’t have an end date, “will make the ferry more time-competitive with bus, subway, and other local transit options during the morning commute.”

The South Brooklyn route will operate as normal after 10:15 a.m. and all day on weekends.
