Williamsburg mainstay Kellogg’s Diner could be yours for $2.5 million
However, the price of the diner, which has filed for bankruptcy, is "negotiable"
Kellogg’s Diner, the greasy spoon that has been a Williamsburg mainstay for 95 years, is up for sale.
The stainless steel-framed diner at Metropolitan and Union Avenues, a beacon for late-night diners after a booze-fueled evening, has recently filed for bankruptcy. A real estate listing shows creditors asking for $2.5 million (though the price is “negotiable”). The lucky buyer will receive a 30-year lease, its coveted liquor license and a “fully staffed turnkey operation.”
Perhaps most recognizable for its neon-lit sign perched on top of the diner, Kellogg’s became known beyond Brooklyn for a cameo in HBO’s “Girls.” A scene shot there with stars Adam Driver and Lena Dunham has more recently spawned the “good soup” meme on TikTok.
Eater reports that Kellogg’s has been financially struggling for a long time. In recent years, the diner has owed at least $750,000 in unpaid expenses ranging from utility bills, unpaid rent and even legal fees stemming from a federal wage theft lawsuit.
Apparently, multiple attempts to turn it around (including selling the food under 18 different names on delivery apps) hasn’t worked and it filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in January 30. After suspending service for a few weeks, Kellogg’s has returned with reduced hours, making it no longer a 24/7 operation.
