Second City announces opening date for its new Williamsburg location
The comedy institution is set to open its doors November 16, with opening night tickets starting at $39
Second City, the legendary comedy school and theater, announced back in October that it would be bringing the funny to New York. Now the institution has confirmed that it will be opening its first ever first-city outpost in Williamsburg on November 16.
Second City’s new 11,900 square-foot entertainment complex will feature two cabaret-style live theaters, classrooms and a full-service restaurant with bar at 64 N. 9th Street in Williamsburg, near the Hoxton hotel (and, yum, Laser Wolf).
The opening night show is billed as “First City Revue,” a sketch comedy show featuring its “world-famous improvisation” mastered by countless comedy legends over the years. Tickets start at $39 and cost as much as $79. Other shows on the schedule include a holiday-themed night and a comedy brunch.
Second City CEO Ed Wells said in a release that there’s “no better way” to celebrate its 65th anniversary with the opening of a Brooklyn location.
“As the center of global culture and entertainment, New York represents a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase our world- renowned brand of comedy-based entertainment with an incredible NYC-based cast, and to deliver our proprietary ‘Yes, and…’ improv-based training,” Wells said in a not-especially-funny press release.
Founded in 1959, the comedy institution is the oldest ongoing improvisational theater troupe in Chicago and has influenced the trajectory of American comedy consistently ever since. Second City also has another location in Toronto.
